Yes! Some Dutchies really love it! I also think that it is seen as being really "into music" when you go as far to scan MySpace for new bands and find this hip and trendy Norwegian band. And then, if you can sing along, you are really an underground music lover!

Before I moved to Amsterdam a couple of months ago, I knew that there were a lot of people with nationalities other than Dutch living here. However, what I wasn't aware of, was the fact that this is so clearly visible in the cultural life of this city. When I came here, I was surprised to see that lots of Norwegian bands were giving concerts here this spring. Wow, I remembered thinking, are there really enough Norwegians living here to fill up a whole concert hall?? Last week I went to a concert at Paradiso to see the Norwegian band Kaizers Orchestra, and there I got somewhat of a shock. The place seemed almost packed, and almost everyone there was Dutch. Dutch people coming to see a band that sings in Norwegian, a language they don't understand at all. And they all seemed to try to sing along! The question I have been left with after the concert is, how did all these Dutch people know about this band?? As far as I know, they're not that famous outside Norwegian borders... Personally, I must admit that I don't know the names of any Dutch bands that sing in Dutch. How did all the Dutchies know about Kaizers Orchestra?? It's not even like they can just read about them in Norwegian newspapers, because they wouldn't understand them... Do a lot of Dutch people attend concerts of random bands that sing in languages they don't understand?
